Medicine Creek Grazing Association, Inc, (MCGA) was started in 1966 by eight ranching partners who purchased the ranch from Guy Smith.  Partners included Glen Anderson, Willard Chistian, Ronald Peterson, James Schaefer, LeRoy Schaefer, Jr., Berwyn Svobda, Richard Warner, and Hugh Wynia.  In 1968 Medicine Creek Guest Ranch (MCGA) was created to provide additional income to support the MCGA.  Some of the early wranglers included Jim Murphy, Glen Anderson, and Jerry Ireland.  The MCGR offered summer camps for boys  and girls ages 9-14.  The youngsters came from all over the United States and Europe.  They fished, rode horses and completed daily ranch chores.  In 1983, the Leonard Larson family, the last wranglers, led the final organized trail ride across the grasslands of MCGA.  In 1992, James and Gloria Schaefer established total ownership of MCGA.  In 1998, Bart and Tonya (Schaefer) Ness leased the hunting rights from Schaefers and began offering hunting packages to the MCGA.  The wranglers’ home has been renovated into a guest lodge.
